The Alaskan Escape in Babita Malkani

Every piece from Babita Malkani’s collection ‘Omayok’ that you put on has a story to tell. She’s one of the few Indian designers we have who draws inspiration from her travel escapades to various parts of the world. Each of her collection is so well thought off, whimsical and beautifully constructed that is transports you to another magical land through her clothes. This time she’s taking us to Alaska!

Native Alaskan Art? Quite unheard off! That’s what got me so intrigued and interested in this collection. Every outfit has an element of this art form, which is so rare. The embroidery, colors, structure and silhouettes give this art form so much life, which you can see is so strikingly incorporated in this pencil skirt. The ombre cape style top with gorgeous jute trimming makes you want to prance around in a lovely mystical forest and be one with nature. Carefree and free spirited!

This look is inspired by my love for bold prints with a little bit of edge. Pattern mixing can be a wee bit tricky, but there’s one combo that will never, ever let you down is Ombre + Abstract. The detailing is impeccable. There is a part of the Alaskan Art form right from the ensemble to the quirky neckpiece and even the shoes! Babita Malkani sure knows how to re-live a dying art form and spice it up with a twist. Kudos to that!

Until next time,

Bella Karisa
