The beginning of my week- could not get any better! A quick trip to the land of the Sun, Jodhpur was a welcomed change from the long, boring, work filled weekend. I dread Monday’s. Sunday night, the weekend withdrawals start and when the alarm rings on Monday morning its time to repeatedly hit the snooze button on my phone. But this Monday was exceptional because it was time to reach the airport and not the office.
Touchdown Jodhpur into the lap of luxury! Umaid Bhawan Palace. Fleet of drummers, red carpet rolled out, canopy set upright to avoid the blaring sun and a traditional tikka and garland ritual along with a glass of champagne welcomed us. I felt like a princess the minute I entered the gates of this humongous palace hotel. The sheer grandeur was spectacular and mesmerizing. The art deco style interior was the pinnacle of fashion during its hay-days and even today Umaid Bhawan’s interiors is one of the best preserved in the world.
Check-in done and off I go straight to the spa. There’s nothing more enjoyable than to experience a Spa treatment by Jiva in the comfort of your own hotel in the middle of a completely hectic work week. Their Spa is such an intimate temple where I feel like my mind and body regenerates each time I go.
The palace garden was my most favourite area. Lush green with beautiful flowers spread across acres of the property. I do not remember the last time I ever walked barefoot on grass and here I was literally sleeping on grass under the bright blue skies. It felt great and so refreshing. With an ambience like this I could not think of any other designer but the master himself who draws inspiration from history, tradition and royalty- Tarun Tahiliani!
This embroidered digital printed short dress from his latest collection was the perfect ensemble to go with the mood of this beautiful palace. The floral and leafy motif detailing of the dress resembled the intricate carving on the palace walls. This outfit is simply perfect for any girl to feel like a royal herself.
Spending a good three days at this hotel was a break much needed. The calmness of the palace corridors, chirping birds in the manicured lawns, scrumptious jodhpuri delicacies and the exceptional hospitality of the Taj Group of Hotels was amazing. The mystic of the Maharaja has never seized to cast its spell on me, carpets of ivory, pearls and gold, emeralds the size of goose eggs, silver trains as they whistled as they carried drinks around the enormous table, cigar boxes scattered around for one and all, swimming pools filled with champagne, rolce royces made of gold are some of the tales I heard during my visit. One can only dream of such luxury in today’s day and age. This trip surely transported me to another era. An unforgettable journey – A Royal Affair!
Until next time,
